Greetings. I just discovered this utility, and it looks extremely useful. I'd love to try it out, but I can't get it to install. It claims the Management Studio 2012 isn't installed, but it definately IS installed. I've attached a screenshot.

Hi,
we will check it, can you please tell me full PATH, where your SSMS is installed ?
For example mine path is:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Tools\Binn\ManagementStudio\Ssms.exe"

This is the path that the Start menu shortcut points to:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Tools\Binn\ManagementStudio\Ssms.exe"

Can you please additionally check this registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Tools\ClientSetup
Do you have it, and which value do you have there ?

Hello, sorry for late reply.

SSMSBoost installer checks presence of "SqlToolsPath" key. It looks like it is missing in your case, which is strange. I suppose you have 32 version of Windows, but if you have x64, then it should be located at:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Tools\ClientSetup

SqlToolsPath has value identical to "Path", with addition of "ManagementStudio\". Like:
SqlToolsPath: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Tools\Binn\ManagementStudio\"

Can you try to search in registry and check, if "SqlToolsPath" will be found there at all ?

We have decided that in future versions we will not check these values at all, just to avoid such situations.
To fix the problem temporary you can add
SqlToolsPath: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Tools\Binn\ManagementStudio\"
key to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Tools\ClientSetup
or
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Tools\ClientSetup
(depending on 32 or 64 version of OS).

I am having the same issue. I can not install the software even though I have SSMS 2012 installed. I've checked my SqlToolsPath and it states "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Tools\Binn\ManagementStudio\" and still no such luck.

The only other piece of advice is that I am running Win 7 x64 but SSMS is x32. Could that be part of the problem?

same thing happened to me. win 7 64-bit, had all the reg keys, etc, and install would fail with the same message. I then ran the install as administrator and no problem. Hope the new version comes out soon! Looking forward to the logging feature.

Thank you for your feedback. Beta of new version is out. Check the beta channel and maybe you can confirm that new Installs do not have this "SSMS not installed" Problem anymore. (Please reply in beta-thread).
Thanks !
